ECTS (The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System)
The necessity to recognise the study period abroad and other university’s diploma necessary for the creation of ‘Europe without borders’ in education and training where teachers and students would be able to move without restrictions created the basis for the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The system recognises the study period outside students’ primary university by including it in the studies in the home university. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System helps to measure and compare student’s achievements in their studies and transfer them into standards respected in particular cooperating institutions.
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System are procedures created by the European Commission that guarantee recognition of the study period abroad. Its main goal is to create legal and organizational basis for studies, that would be beneficial for students who wish to continue their studies abroad but also in this University to facilitate mobilities among Polish and foreign universities that use the ECTS system.
The preparation and implementation of the program at Gdansk Higher School of Humanities is aimed at facilitating students’ exchange with foreign institution and full recognition of the study period abroad.
The number of the ECTS credits provided by the plan of studies for one semester is from 27 to 33, while it is 60 ECTS credits for an academic year. It is necessary to gather 180 - 240 ECTS credits to complete a first cycle programme, and 90 - 120 ECTS credits to complete a second cycle programme.
